So I have a Shimano 71XG SLX MGL. I’m new to this and I have 4 brake pads on the inside and have 2 up and 2 down and I understand the spool tensioner but I also have a dial of 1-6 on the outside of the brake cover. What does that dial do? I don’t notice a difference when I set it at 1 or at 6. Help!

When I got a new baitcaster and was first learning it the person who helped me pick out a good reel & rod told me to use a larger diameter line like 50LB braided cause itll help with taking line out and just go down to smaller line whenever you get better at removing birdnests

My old man told me the same as you debo, but he also said if you're unsure very gently pop rod tip. If you get a reaction it's usually a fish.

I still really dig the Lew’s rods around that $99 mark, the IM8 blanks seems nice. I prefer them over my more expensive st croix. I also dig that bass pro Carbonlite whatever it’s called. I need to pick the shinano and daiwa rods up to try :)

Back in the 70s and 80s most spinnerbaits had a twist type line tie. The R bend just pretty much took over.

If you combine the first not and the third not you get a clean easy to tie, supper strong not with only one dead end!

I brake my tips off when I high stick it🤦 I stop doing that.... Wasted some nice rods and made them smaller and more sensitive when shorted 🤫 it has less movement and slack in the tip now the rod can still do it's job putting fish on the bank. Shimano rod for me nice rods I like the- Aeroglass- fast Action- for my kid's strong and durable stuff. Both great rods.

Grew up fishing with my grandfather and all he used was a spinning reel , and a fly rod . I’m trying to build a good bass rod and reel , I’m just comfortable with them !

Those rebarb hooks are awesome. I use those with zoom zdrop and zoom finesse trick worms. I might pick me up some of those baits you were using. They looked good. I have several of those rods and I like them. 👊👍
